Khichdi Moong Dal Khichdi is a complete meal in itself. For those unaware, khichdi is a complete meal made with rice and lentils which are pressure cooked together and in India it's synonyms with illness. Khichdi is a South Asian rice dish made from rice and dal (the split version of pulses like lentils, peas, mung beans, etc.).

Bahan Membuat Khichdi

  1. You need 1/2 cup of short grain rice.
  2. You need 1/2 cup of lentils (moog daal/toor Dal/masoor daal).
  3. It's 1 of medium sized diced potato.
  4. It's 1/4 cup of cauliflower florets.
  5. You need 1/4 cup of green peas.
  6. It's 1/4 cup of diced carrot.
  7. It's 2 of green chillies(slitted).
  8. You need 1/2 teaspoon of whole cumin seeds.
  9. Prepare 1 of bay leaf.
  10. You need 1/4 cup of chopped onion.
  11. It's 2 cloves of garlic.
  12. It's 2 tablespoon of ghee/cooking oil.
  13. It's 1/2 teaspoon of garam masala powder.
  14. It's 1 teaspoon of salt.
  15. Prepare 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder.

Langkah Memasak Khichdi

  1. First wash all the vegetables, rice & lentil properly then cut the vegetables in desired pieces..
  2. Now In a pressure cooker heat up some ghee/oil and add temper the oil with whole cumin seeds, slit green chillies & bay leaf..
  3. Add chopped onion once the cumin seeds start crackling & saute..
  4. Now add whole garlic cloves & saute with the onion, it will brings nice flavor to the khichdi. Then add 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder & mix well into the oil..
  5. After that add cauliflower florets & saute for a while then add all the other vegetables one by one & saute..
  6. Now add pre washed rice-lentils & mix well with the other vegetables. Saute for 5-6 minutes then add garam masala powder & salt as per taste..
  7. After that add 5 cups of water & stir well.Now pressure cook the mixture for upto 2 whistle on medium high heat..
  8. Now take the cooker out of flame & wait until it releases all the pressure. Once the pressure has released open the lid and mix well with the help of a spatula. Khichdi is ready to be served..
  9. Serve it hot with papad(fried lentil chips), pakodas & some pickle..

I am sharing a unique khichdi called Hyderabadi khichdi. The basic khichdi is a simple mix of rice and moong dal cooked with a ghee seasoning of cumin, ginger, green chilies, and turmeric powder. This imparts a tangy twist to the toor dal khichdi making it holistic in terms of taste too. Make sure you top your dal khichdi with generous amounts of melted ghee.
